Ten years ago "new wave" comedy hit Australia, which was a God send for me. Up until then stand-up comedy was based around joke telling in the English/Irish tradition. The "new-wave" of comedy was about story-telling, observational humour and monologues. What turned me on was there was no rigid format, which meant off with the straight jacket.
